Twiplomacy: Twitter Timeline of Macron’s Visit to India

At the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, French President Emmanuel Macron paid a State Visit to India during 10 to 12 March 2018. The two leaders co-hosted the Founding Summit of the International Solar Alliance in New Delhi on 11 March 2018. The leaders held wide-ranging and constructive discussions on the bilateral relations and underlined the growing convergence between the two countries on regional and international issues.

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the strategic partnership between India and France, the first to be established by India, the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to furthering it and decided to take it to a new level by agreeing to hold biennial summits between the Prime Minister of India and the President of the French Republic. Both leaders agreed to deepen and strengthen the bilateral ties based on shared principles and values of democracy, freedom, rule of law and respect for human rights.

Later on March 10, Emmanuel Macron paid a visit to Rajghat – Mahatma Gandhi’s monument in New Delhi

Translation: I have come to pay homage, in the silence of respect, to the man who has obtained the independence of the world’s greatest democracy. For the whole world, Gandhi remains the example that one can change the course of history with the strength of new ideas without resorting to weapons.

Meeting Indian EAM Sushma Swaraj

Translation: With Indian Minister of External Affairs. The Franco-Indian strategic partnership is good for our two nations and strengthens our links in the areas of security, smart cities or sustainable development.

In a town hall address, President Macron interacted with the Indian youths and discussed various aspects of possible cooperation between India & France

 

 

India & France headed the first International Solar Alliance

Translation: We have not come from all continents to deliver additional speeches that will soon be forgotten. We came to put the subjects on the table and give access to solar energy in the world.

President Macron said that while some (Trump) decided just to leave the Paris Agreement, others decided to act. France will extend an extra 700 million euros ($861.5 million) through loans and donations by 2022 for solar projects in emerging economies, he said.

Translation: 100 projects to develop solar energy have already been identified with 36 member States. These are concrete projects carried out by innovative young companies.

Translation: The Taj Mahal belongs to India and its history, a love story in the heart of the 17 ᵉ century. He says the share of the Mughals and Islam, but he also testifies on the part of the universal who made India and continues to do so. Thank you for this lesson of kindness, love and universal.
